Assistant General Manager

Job Requirements:

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Reporting to the Plant’s General Manager, the Assistant General Manager is responsible for managing all production (Manufacturing and Converting) and maintenance activities, including the management of paper machines, fibre, converting, maintenance and related processes (water treatment, boiler), in keeping with the Plant’s overall operational success. The incumbent enforces occupational health and safety regulations and sees to the implementation of strategic plans. They also develop their team members by providing guidance and coaching.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Plan, organize, lead and control all production-related activities at the Plant; you will have responsibility for the Converting Manager, Maintenance Manager, and Paper Machine Manager
  • Engage in the Plant’s annual strategic planning and major objective planning, such as:
    • Establishing health and safety, environment and quality objectives;
    • Setting production targets;
    • Establishing the Plant’s overall budget;
  • Develop the annual value creation program, and setting organizational effectiveness and succession planning objectives; and establish capital projects for the Plant
  • Implement programs and processes to ensure that business plan objectives are met
  • Develop an action plan to improve health and safety, environment and quality outcomes
  • Ensure optimal operations management and the continuous improvement of performance
  • Be accountable for the compliance of their operations and comply with legal and corporate environmental requirements
  • Lead their sectors’ communication plan and ensure that existing management practices promote employee performance, development and engagement; and
  • Put in place adequate personal development plans (PDPs) to further develop your team members and prepare the next generation for future senior positions.
  • Participate in cost-control activities, assist in management and reporting of operating costs
  • Responsible for back filling General Manager position when GM is on vacation/leave of absence

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • 10-15 years' of progressive experience in a leadership role
  • Five (5) years or more of experience managing a team in a context of organizational transformation;
  • Must have experience in the paper industry; tissue experience is a bonus
  • Bonus points if you have worked in a unionized environment
  • Focused on results, continuous improvement and good manufacturing practices;
  • Thorough knowledge of all methods and aspects of the manufacturing process and equipment reliability, combined with a good track record of relevant achievements and results.
